Organisation

The Department of Law is organised around three governing bodies in charge of the organisation and management of research, teaching and third mission activities:

The Director represents the Department and chairs the Council. The Executive ensures the respective resolutions are carried out. The Director is responsible for the Department’s level of research, the standard of teaching together with the so-called "third mission"; in relation to this, it can appoint its own delegate with specific tasks.

The Director appoints at least two Deputy Directors of the Department and assigns the role of Deputy Director to the Deputy Director of Teaching or to the Deputy Director of Research.

  • Deputy Director (Vice Direttore)
  • Delegates of the Chancellor (Delegati)

Council, director and board are divided up into several departmental committees whose composition, powers and operation are governed by the Department's Operating Rules (Regolamento di Funzionamento del Dipartimento).

The Research Commission and the Teaching Commission plan and coordinate research activities, the third mission and all the Department's teaching activities. These Commissions give their opinions to the Council, the Department Council and the assessment bodies; together they draft the Department's annual and three-year plan and revise the scientific-cultural project and teaching; they ensure that resources and Department of Law staff are distributed to target specific objectives and promote international exchange.

The Organisational Commission is a standing committee that proposes and ensures the development of research and the sustainability of the training provided.

The Self-Assessment Commission organises and prepares specific procedures for the annual monitoring of departmental performance, in relation to Art. 3 para. 9 of the Departmental Operating Rules and the objectives set out in the Department's three-year plan.

Other temporary or permanent commissions are also established in the Department with investigative and/or advisory tasks or with operational tasks delegated by the Council. Among these, the Public Engagement Commission plays its role within the Research Commission to coordinate and promote Third Mission projects within the area of public engagement.

The Department draws up a three-year plan, which can be updated annually, of research, teaching, third mission activities, including technology transfer and public engagement, and internationalisation. The three-year plan defines the objectives and commitments of greatest interest to the Department and also considers the research, teaching and third mission activities of Sections, Research Groups or individual members.

The Department has technical and administrative staff to support research, and they report directly to the Director of the Department.

On the other hand, it is the Departments which provide the teaching and research bodies, with the more general technical and administrative services, through a Pole system of organisational units.

The following structures are established for each Pole:

There is also a Pole Coordinator, who reports to the General Director, whose aim is to ensure cross-departmental integration and coordination.

The Department of Law belongs to the ”Luigi Einaudi Campus” Pole together with the "Cognetti de Martiis" Department of Economics and Statistics and the Department of Cultures, Politics and Society.
